'I believe in the future resolution of these two states, dream and reality, which are seemingly so contradictory, into a kind of absolute reality, a surreality, if one may so speak.' - André Breton, Manifestoes of Surrealism.

From Eluard to Breton, this course takes us through the terrain of the Surrealist poets, their imagery and vision. We will be looking at Surrealist approaches to creating poetry from the instinct of dream to Surrealist manifestos whilst also finding Surrealistic tendencies in poetry far removed from the distillation of imagination. This course will give a focussed overview of Surrealist poetry whilst enabling you to create a body of Surreal work using a wide range of techniques from palindromes to calligrams, methods of automatic and dream writing, self-hypnosis and the exquisite corpse.

This is a three week online course. When you choose to buy this course, we will contact you after purchase to arrange a time to begin which suits you. You can choose between annotated responses to your poems sent to you via email, or live discussion via google hangouts (a gmail email is free and easy to sign up for).
